The General Assembly is the main deliberative, policy-making and representative organ of the United Nations.

 

It is the 1st Committee of the UN General Assembly and is devoted to “the establishment and maintenance of international peace and security,” the Disarmament and International Security Committee of the United Nations focuses on the topics of arms control, pacifistic conflict resolution, and global safety.

 

 

As a General Assembly Mains committee, DISEC is inclusive of all UN Member States, serving as a large forum for discussions on a variety of topics regarding international peace and security.

Every member has one vote.

 

Due to the fact that all the member states are represented equally in this committee and a simple majority is needed to pass a resolution, it is a very powerful committee in the United Nations.
